The roots of Valmarin

Valmarin’s roots go back to 1938 and Finland’s golden age of science. It all began with an insight by J. Valmari, a professor of agriculture and forestry, chemistry and physics at the University of Helsinki. Professor J. Valmari developed Valmarin.
While working in the research group of Nobel Prize winner A.I. Virtanen, Professor Valmari himself suffered from stomach problems and heartburn.
Unable to find a ready-made solution, he decided to put chemistry and physics to use and developed a remedy for himself: a unique mineral solution. Its effectiveness was so convincing that word of “the professor’s solution” quickly spread from the research laboratory to the medical community. Valmarin was born.

From soda into your own containers

When war broke out in 1939, many production lines were halted, but Valmarin’s importance to public health was recognised. The product was granted an exemption to allow the purchase of raw materials despite wartime restrictions. As glass bottles were in desperately short supply, loyal customers came to collect the vital solution in their own containers. It was a story of survival that cemented Valmarin’s place in the hearts of Finns.

Industrial bottling was only able to begin in earnest once peace had returned.

From international renown to the top of sport

In the 1950s and 1960s, Valmarin was a true export success. Japanese delegations arrived to negotiate licences, and the product received numerous diplomas at world fairs. Over the years, Valmarin has won numerous awards around the world.
The product’s benefits were soon recognised in the sporting world as well: through the Soviet Embassy, large quantities of Valmarin were delivered directly to a sports clinic in Leningrad. Finnish rheumatism sanatoriums also began using the product.

From being forgotten to flourishing again

The 1970s brought silence. Without marketing and amid fierce competition, this Finnish gem was almost forgotten. But in the 1980s, a new spark was lit when the company found an owner who saw the product’s true value. Determined work began: production was modernised and communication started again from scratch. Although the new generation was not yet familiar with Valmarin, long-time users remembered it immediately. When the story and effectiveness came together again, sales began to grow.

Valmarin today

The mineral solution developed in 1938 has become a Finnish classic, still known as Valmarin. Today, Valmarin is a citrate solution and food supplement made in Finland, combining citrate with minerals. Valmarin contains manganese, which contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. The decades have changed, but Valmarin's core idea remains the same: a carefully considered composition, Finnish production and a product that has been part of successive generations' lives.
